It was only through the struggle of the civil rights movement, and the insistence that all children be given fair access to resources, that the nation began to move closer to its ideals.

The meaning of Breed’s declaration is clear: equality in education is not achieved by opening the school doors alone; it is achieved by ensuring that every child has what they need to learn once they enter. The child of the wealthy should not be armed with libraries and computers while the child of the poor is left with empty hands. For the mind of the poor child is no less capable, their dreams no less radiant. They require only the tools, and their brilliance will shine.

Therefore, O listener, let this wisdom shape your heart and actions. Support the schools in your community. Donate materials where they are lacking.
