Everybody just has different steps in their life that they take

Hear, O wanderers of destiny, the words of Travis Scott: “Everybody just has different steps in their life that they take to do what they should.” Simple though they seem, these words contain the wisdom of ages. For life is not a single path, nor do all men walk the same road. Each soul has its own rhythm, its own journey, its own steps. What is right for one may not be right for another, yet all are drawn toward the duty of becoming who they were meant to be.

The meaning is this: no life is without purpose, and no journey is identical. Some are called to walk swiftly, their steps bold and visible, leaving trails for others to follow. Others move slowly, with quiet strength, carving unseen paths through shadow and silence. Each person’s steps are different, yet each is sacred. The danger lies in comparing journeys, in thinking one’s pace or path lesser than another’s. For as the river flows differently from the mountain, yet both reach the sea, so too do men and women fulfill their callings in diverse ways.

History itself proves this truth. Think of Mahatma Gandhi and Winston Churchill—two men alive in the same era, yet their steps so different. Gandhi walked the path of nonviolence, fasting, and peaceful resistance, while Churchill strode the path of fiery speeches and steadfast leadership in war. Each man’s journey seemed contradictory, yet both did what they should for their people and their time. Their steps were not the same, but each was necessary for history’s great unfolding.

Even in the realm of invention and discovery, we see the same. Thomas Edison worked tirelessly, testing thousands of materials to perfect the lightbulb, his steps many, his progress slow and dogged. Nikola Tesla, by contrast, seemed to leap forward with sudden visions, grasping insights in moments of brilliance. Their methods were different, their steps unlike, yet both illuminated the world. Here again is Scott’s truth: every soul has different steps, yet all strive toward what they are called to accomplish.

There is also humility in his words. For often we judge others for not walking as we walk, or for not reaching milestones when we think they should. Yet who can know the burden another carries, or the lessons another must learn before they are ready for the next step? To honor the diversity of paths is to honor the mystery of life itself. To demand uniformity is to deny the richness of the human story.

The lesson for us, then, is this: walk your own steps with courage, and respect the steps of others with compassion. Do not envy the swift, nor scorn the slow. Instead, trust that each journey has its appointed course, and that what matters is not the comparison of paths, but the faithfulness with which each person takes the steps set before them. The measure of a life is not in how quickly it reaches its summit, but in whether it walks truly toward what is right.

So I say to you, children of tomorrow: embrace your journey. Take each step as it comes, whether large or small, whether noticed or unseen. Do not falter if others walk differently, for their road is not yours. And when you look back upon your life, you will see that each step—every hardship, every joy, every trial—was part of the dance of destiny that led you to do what you should.
