For Aiden Wilson Tozer, that man of deep devotion and holy reflection, once declared: “In almost everything that touches our everyday life on earth, God is pleased when we’re pleased. He wills that we be as free as birds to soar and sing our Maker’s praise without anxiety.” These are words not of careless joy, but of sacred delight — a reminder that the Creator of the universe takes pleasure in our gladness, and that freedom from fear is itself an act of worship.

Tozer lived in the mid-twentieth century, a time when the world was shaken by wars and shadowed by uncertainty. Yet amid the thunder of nations and the weariness of souls, he turned men’s eyes back to the heart of God — not a God of iron rule and dread, but a Father who rejoices in the happiness of His children. His words spring from the truth that the One who formed the stars also formed laughter, beauty, and song. God does not desire His children to live as slaves of worry, chained by guilt or fear. The bird does not wake in dread of the storm, for it knows the winds that lift it are the same winds that God commands. We find a living example of this faith in the story of George Müller, the humble servant of Bristol, who cared for thousands of orphans without ever asking a man for money. He trusted wholly in God’s provision, praying each day for bread, and the bread always came. One morning, there was nothing to feed the children. Yet Müller gathered them and gave thanks, saying, “Dear Father, thank You for the food You will give us.” Even as he prayed, a knock sounded on the door—a baker and a milkman, both delayed by circumstance, brought enough to feed them all. Müller’s heart was free, not anxious, and in his trust, God was glorified. Such is the joy Tozer spoke of — not empty optimism, but holy confidence in divine goodness.

Let none mistake Tozer’s words for indulgence or idle pleasure. He does not speak of fleeting amusement or worldly distraction, but of a joy rooted in divine alignment. When we delight in what is good, noble, pure, and true, we mirror God’s own delight. The smile of a child, the beauty of a sunset, the quiet peace of a faithful heart — all these are threads of divine joy woven into human life. To be pleased in God’s world is to honor the Artist through the appreciation of His art.

The lesson, then, is luminous and liberating: we were not created to crawl through life burdened by fear or shame. We were made to soar. Tozer bids us live with untroubled hearts, with gratitude as our song and faith as our wings. When we trust in God’s goodness, even our smallest joys become acts of praise. When we relinquish control and live in peace, He is pleased, for we live as He intended — free and fearless in His care.

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, cast off the garments of anxiety. Do not clutch at tomorrow as though it were yours to command. Live today with thanksgiving. Sing, work, love, rest, and laugh — all in the presence of the Almighty. For God is pleased when you are pleased in Him, and when your spirit rises on the winds of gratitude, you fulfill your highest purpose: to live as a child of divine joy, soaring and singing the praise of your Maker.
