In my definition of consciousness, consciousness is the same thing as life. What wisdom traditions also call spirit.

Chopra unites the teachings of wisdom traditions across the ages, naming this flame also as spirit, the eternal essence that binds all beings.
The ancients spoke with the same voice. The Vedic seers of India called it Atman, the breath of the eternal Self. The philosophers of Greece called it psyche, the soul that animates the mortal clay. Even the desert prophets called it ruach or pneuma, the wind of God moving within man. Though their tongues differed, all pointed to the same mystery: life and consciousness are not separate, but one. Where there is life, there is spirit; where there is spirit, there is life.
