I've spent a lot of time in L.A. and I love it. A lot of Brits
I've spent a lot of time in L.A. and I love it. A lot of Brits can't stand the place, but I like the West Coast attitude and the way people celebrate success.
Host: The soft glow of city lights spills through the window, casting gentle reflections across the dark streets below. The air is still warm, a reminder of the summer night outside. Inside, Jack and Jeeny sit in comfortable silence, the hum of the city creeping in through the open window. Jeeny sits on the couch, curled with a blanket, while Jack stands by the window, his figure outlined against the backdrop of the city. There’s a quiet between them, a space filled with the weight of the unspoken.
Jeeny: (breaking the silence, her voice curious but light) “You know, I’ve always wanted to go to California. The way people talk about it—there’s something about that West Coast vibe. Do you think it really is as… freeing as they say?”
Jack: (his voice dry, but with a slight smirk as he turns to face her) “California? It’s hard to say. I’ve spent a lot of time in L.A., and I get why people love it. There’s this certain attitude there, like people are just open to whatever life throws at them. It’s different from what you find on the East Coast, or especially in Europe.”
Jeeny: (looking up, intrigued) “What’s so different about it? I mean, I’ve heard people say it’s fake or shallow. You don’t think that’s true?”
Jack: (his expression shifts slightly, as if considering the question more seriously) “I think it’s easy to dismiss L.A. if you don’t understand the mindset. It’s all about embracing success, putting yourself out there, celebrating it. A lot of Brits can’t stand the place, because they think it’s all surface, all about showing off. But to me? There’s something refreshing about how they just go for it. They don’t apologize for wanting success. They don’t hide their ambition.”
Jeeny: (her eyes narrowing slightly, she leans forward, her voice soft but probing) “But isn’t there something a little… shallow about that? I mean, what about the pressure to be perfect, to keep up with everyone else? What if that kind of mentality just feeds into the idea that success is the only thing that matters?”
Host: Jeeny’s words linger in the air, a quiet undercurrent to the conversation. Jack, still standing near the window, seems to be carefully weighing his response. The glow of the city lights flickers like the pulse of a distant, unknown rhythm—dancing between their thoughts.
Jack: (his voice calm, but with a hint of conviction) “Yeah, I get it. It can be superficial, sure. But that’s not all it is. It’s not about just looking good or showing off. It’s about believing in the idea that you can make something of yourself, no matter where you come from. L.A. has this energy. People are celebrating what they’re achieving, and there's a kind of freedom in that. Maybe it’s that West Coast attitude—the way people just embrace the possibilities without the weight of judgment.”
Jeeny: (tilting her head, her voice thoughtful) “So you think there’s something liberating in how people don’t hold back? That they just embrace success, even if it’s out there and loud?”
Jack: (nodding slightly, his eyes softening as if reflecting on his own experiences) “Exactly. It’s not just about the glitz and glamour. It’s a mentality. A belief that success is worth celebrating, even in big, bold ways. People are unapologetic about it. And honestly, I think there’s something to be said for that kind of openness. L.A. isn’t afraid to show you what it’s all about—the good, the bad, the ugly. Maybe that’s why it attracts so many dreamers.”
Host: The room feels warmer now, as if the conversation has begun to resonate with both of them. Jeeny watches Jack, sensing the depth in his words. The city outside continues its rhythm, the distant whispers of the world merging with the quiet tension between them.
Jeeny: (her voice softens, almost contemplative) “It’s hard not to get caught up in the idea of success. But I guess you’re right. There’s something beautiful about being open to it, to just going for what you want, without apology. Even if it means stepping outside the lines, embracing what makes you stand out.”
Jack: (smiling, the warmth of his words reaching his eyes now) “Yeah, there’s a reason people flock to L.A.. It’s not just the palm trees or the sunshine. It’s the mentality—the way people chase what they want without hesitation. They’re not afraid to say, ‘I’ve got a dream, and I’m going to make it happen.’ That kind of energy is contagious.”
Jeeny: (nodding, her voice filled with a quiet understanding) “It’s like the world is full of possibilities when you just believe in them. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about trying and putting everything into what matters to you.”
Host: Jeeny smiles softly, the light from the city reflecting in her eyes, as if she’s seeing the world with a new clarity. Jack leans back, his arms uncrossing, a soft exhale escaping him. For a moment, the weight of the conversation lingers, and the room feels alive with the understanding that the best parts of life come from embracing what you truly want, without hiding behind anything.
Jack: (his voice slightly lighter, as if a weight has been lifted) “Maybe there’s more to L.A. than I gave it credit for. The way they celebrate success—it’s not just about what you achieve, but the spirit you bring to it. The world might need a bit more of that.”
Jeeny: (smiling warmly, as the city outside continues its quiet pulse) “I think we could all use a bit more of that freedom. To just chase what we want, without feeling guilty about it.”
Host: The night deepens, and the hum of the city continues, like a quiet promise. In this moment, they both see the value in the openness of L.A., in the rawness of celebrating success and the courage it takes to embrace what life offers, even if it’s messy, loud, and unapologetic.
