Host: The light from the streetlamp flickered, washing their faces in alternating shadows and glow. Outside, a bus passed, hissing water into the gutter.

Jeeny: “But pain doesn’t always mean loss, Jack. Sometimes it means growth. Like the quote says—‘My experiences have taught me a lot and I’m happy with my learnings, if not with what I went through to learn.’ She wasn’t happy about the suffering, but she was grateful for what it gave her.”

Jack: “Grateful? For trauma? That’s like thanking the fire after it burns your house down just because you learned how to install a smoke detector.”

Jeeny: “You’re mocking what’s sacred. Pain isn’t just an accident, Jack. It’s a teacher that never lies.”

Jack: “Teachers don’t stab their students to make a point.”

Host: The rain intensified, beating against the glass with rhythmic violence. Jack’s jaw tightened; Jeeny’s eyes softened. The diner was nearly empty, save for the faint hum of a broken neon sign that flickered like a tired heartbeat.

Jeeny: “Maybe not. But think about it—Nelson Mandela spent twenty-seven years in a prison cell, and yet he came out not bitter, but wiser. Would his wisdom exist without his suffering?”
