Entry into Acting & Early Career

Supriya Pathak’s first theatrical performance was under her mother’s direction in a production of Maina Gurjari.

Her on-screen debut came in 1981 with Kalyug (a home production of Shyam Benegal), playing the role of Subhadra.

A turning point: Jennifer Kendall saw her performance and recommended her to Benegal for Kalyug.

She also acted in Bazaar (1982), Masoom (1983), Mirch Masala (1985) among others.

On television, she became well known for her role as Hansa Parekh in the Khichdi franchise.
Later Work & Notable Projects

After a break from mainstream acting, she re-emerged with roles in films such as Sarkar (2005), Wake Up Sid (2009) and had critical acclaim for Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013) as Dhankor “Baa.”

In the digital/streaming space, she starred in Tabbar (2021) on SonyLIV.

She also acted in Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan (2023) — a sequel in the Khichdi film franchise.
Personal Life & Family

In 1988, Supriya married actor Pankaj Kapur. They have a daughter, Sanah, and a son, Ruhaan.

She is stepmother to actor Shahid Kapoor, from Pankaj Kapur’s earlier marriage.

Her sister Ratna Pathak Shah is married to actor Naseeruddin Shah.
